Origin
The practice was founded by Dr. Douglas Neal in 1989. Dr. Neal’s niche while practicing over the past 3 decades became known in the region for cracking the code of complex diagnostic and counseling cases. From what started as one psychologist with a passion to help clients find true relief from their symptoms, has turned into four locations in Northwest Chicagoland, working in tandem with each other, designed in the image of this passion with one purpose: accurately assess and counsel with care.
Specialized Care
Modeling itself after Dr. Neal, NPS is intentionally designed to meet the needs of clients through specialization.
Similar to the medical model, the clinicians at NPS are required to specialize in areas of focus. These specializations, be it a diagnosis, population, issue or modality/theoretical orientation, allow for NPS clinicians to become experts and practice with distinction, without erroring in an overreach of competency. Each is poised in what they can treat while practicing deference when the case is outside their area of training.
When limitation is identified, it is collaboratively consulted on and referred to the specialist who has proper proficiency, including, and especially, specialists outside of NPS. While this is a different approach to therapy, this method allows NPS clinicians to practice with clarity and conviction, avoiding siloed treatment.
