Bipolar

What is it?

Bipolar disorder is defined by its extreme highs (mania) and crushing lows (depression). Without the proper treatment, this disorder can make it difficult for sufferers to find a stable footing in their lives.

3 Reasons it Matters

  1. Bipolar disorder typically requires lifelong treatment because the symptoms come and go. It does not get better or go away with time.
  2. Manic episodes and deep depressive episodes can each be painful in their own way. The extreme shifting of emotions can put a person at risk for suicide, substance abuse, and anxiety.
  3. This disorder can be severely damaging to one’s personal, work, and family life. Symptoms include little or no energy, erratic or risky behaviors, impaired thinking, and misdirected anger or irritability.
