Complex PTSD
What is it?
Sometimes, prolonged or repeated exposure to interpersonal violence or abuse results in extreme forms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This is known as Complex PTSD and requires professional treatment and support.
3 Reasons it Matters
- A Complex PTSD diagnosis acknowledges and gives context to why a person may be living in a constant state of low-grade anxiety or depression.
- Understanding the root cause of Complex PTSD helps a person understand the origin of their inability to feel safe and respected, as well as their difficulty in trusting others.
- Many people have physical symptoms resulting from complex PTSD, i.e., headaches, back pain, gastrointestinal distress, joint pain, etc.
