What Is OCD?

OCD, or Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, is a mental health disorder that affects people of all ages and from all walks of life. A person with OCD experiences obsessive thoughts and engages in compulsive behaviors that are difficult to manage without help.

OCD can quickly lead to an unhealthy cycle of intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors. Because the behaviors (or rituals) are often time-consuming, OCD may affect a person’s quality of life by limiting productivity, causing additional anxiety and distress, and impeding daily life.

For years, the prevailing treatments for OCD included psychodynamic psychotherapy and/or medication. Thankfully, modern medicine and technology have broadened our understanding of this disorder so that it can now be treated through more natural and effective means.

At NPS, we work to understand how the body’s different systems interact to cause both anxiety and OCD. Through a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychological and behavioral strategies, and recalibration of the body’s chemistry, we help clients find a balance that leads to relief for their OCD. We always use natural supplements first for clients desiring non-medication support. But, if supplements do not work, then we use medications specific to OCD. We have seen significant benefits from both supplements and medication.
